As a book lover, writer, and educator, I have to admit this is one of my favorite seasons of the year. AWARD SEASON! It’s already off to a great start with the NSTA picks for best children’s trade books, and now the Goodreads Choice Awards have been announced.
Mo Willems has won the picture book category for The Pigeon Needs a Bath. I have to admit I love the Pigeon books. They always make me laugh and they are such a fun read-aloud.
I was also excited to see that Rick Riordan won the Middle Grade vote with The Blood of Olympus. His fast action mythology series has me just as captivated as my middle school kids.
In Young Adult Fantasy, the winner was City of Heavenly Fire – the sixth and final book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
E. Lockhart won the general Young Adult category with her brilliant novel We Were Liars. Its a must read.
Sad your favorite didn’t win? You can do something about that. Get registered on Goodreads and vote in the 2015 awards competition. Encourage your students and their families to get involved in reading and voting for their favorite books and authors. Its one of the few awards that is given by the readers themselves!
